Literature and Modern Media 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Literature and Modern Media 2 - Essay ExampleIt is a mid-size entry-level luxury car and - so far it has become Lincolns bestselling model since its introduction. The ad sought to articulate these features and the benefits in a short and engaging communication content. The difficulty in communicating all the features and benefits of the Lincoln MKZ was addressed by using metaphors depicted in compelling imagery. There are many sources that support the efficacy of using metaphors to catch compelling and persuasive advertisement. Among the most excellent of these is MacQuarrie and Phillips (2008) work, which documented numerous studies that demonstrate how metaphors induce a certain mental imagery that influences the behavior of people or, in the case of tele ken advertisements, the viewers. They cited the case of a simulation where subjects were presented a poem with many metaphors and that based on the recorded participants interpretations, combined with sufficient exposure to ocu lar images, were revealed to conjure mental imageries that support the construction and effectiveness of persuasive messages (39). The dynamics of the studies that revolve around this theme falls within the wider argument of the use of shame in advertising and marketing. MacQuarrie and Phillips drew an analogy from the ancient Greeks, who coined the concept in their perfection of the art of rhetoric. They cited that pathos, which is the technique of appealing to emotions, is crucial in cultivating, diverting, enhancing or creating whatever the need was in some type of manipulation in tack to achieve a desired emotional response (39). The idea when applied in the context of marketing is to increase the audiences attitude towards the ad (39). Hoang (2005), describing a particularly adept marketer, had these words that expresses the impact of this particular method gorgeously There was a feeling. As the feeling faded away into a labored, recalled memory, it left another feeling , the feeling of desire. That was effective advertising (44). So, if one considers the metaphors used in the Lincoln MKZ ad, one could not help but recognize the pathos and the desire to influence by eliciting emotional response with the help of words and visual images. For instance, the video opens with the 2013 Lincoln MKZs comparison with the titular phoenix. Here, the introduction of the redesign and the new generation of Lincoln MKZ were achieved. There was the image of the old Lincoln model, which with the expert use of fire and graphical transformation, depicted the concept the phoenix in the process of being born, only that the bird did not really materialize. Rather, the 2013 MKZ emerged in its stead. To formulate the utility of the metaphor, it is crucial to view it this way emotion is difficult to verbalize. Therefore, in order to communicate to the emotion of others, metaphors must be used in order to be effective. When emotions, wrote Malamed (2009), seem ambiguous a nd ethereal, metaphors help make them explicit and tangible (220). Stylistic and technical features were embedded in the comparison with the hawk with night vision goggles. The fun and car solidity were conveyed in the use of the beat of the drum set in a montage with the steady rhythm of machines, cutting the hull of the

Why is the therapeautic relationship regarded as a central component Essay
Why is the therapeautic relationship regarded as a central component to play therapy - Essay ExampleBy giving the minor a variety of different toys, including dolls, stuffed animals, and paints, the therapist is able to watch the childs inter deportions with the toys in order to see how he or she feels. When something difficult happens in a childs intent, he or she may not yet get down the verbal skills to properly express his or her feelings. Play therapy allows for the therapist to get beyond this verbal barrier and into the issues that could be plaguing the childs development. For example, if a child is angry about something, he or she will act more aggressively towards the toys and might even get to the point of being destructive, whereas a depressed child might not even feel alike playing with the toys. The style of therapy is supposed to help the child to come to grips with his or her limitations and capabilities and help the child to learn about him or her self and about l ife in general. It can also be a helpful tool in the child developing communication skills, as the therapist will be there communicating with the child throughout this process, which must take place between children and the counsellor if the time together is to be a therapeutic be (Landreth, Play Therapy Dynamics of the Process of Counseling with Children 45). Studies have shown that play therapy is effective in helping with many different social, behavioural, emotional, and educational problems. These problems include depression, anger, apprehension, demeanour disorders, roast issues, aggressive behaviour, post-traumatic stress disorders, low self-esteem issues, poor social skills, impulsive behaviour, learning disorders, divorce issues, and handling traumatic experiences. Importantly, an ECG done on the patient indicates arterial fibrillation. A day after his surgery, Mr. Patels blood pressure is found to be unstable. The other features identified with the patient one day after the operating theatre are Good CO, Good CI, is normal ABG, 4.3 potassium, on inotropic support, sedated, ventilated , PICCO inserted . The 4.3 potassium was replaced with 20mmol of KCL. Lab results indicated magnesium levels of 0.98, which was replaced with 10mmol of magnesium. After carrying out TOE, it was revealed that the patient had heart muscle edematous. Hence, Cardioversion was forgone. Consequently, a 300mg loading dose of Amiodarone was started on the patient, followed by a 900mg maintenance dos long time. The patient was back to SR the following day. This case study highlights the importance and say-so of using Amiodaron e as medication against Mr. Patels arterial fibrillation, outlining and emphasizing the NICE guidelines observed during Mr. Patels treatment and management. In addition, the use of the NICE-recommended nursing observation, strategies and noise practices on Mr. Patel are outlined. In the United Kingdom, it is reported that atrial fibrillation (AF), one of the most common class of arrhythmia managed in clinical practice, affects about 5% of the population aged 65 years and above. The specialise is found in both genders with men reporting higher prevalence. As in the case of Mr. Patel, the infirmity is characterised by lack of synchronisation of rhythm between the ventricles and atria, thus disturbing his regular rhythm of the heart. AF is general regarded as an electrical energy disruption that causes the focal ratio chambers of the heart to vibrate at an approximate rate of between 300 and 600 times a minute (NCC-CC, 2006). Although the overall mortality rate for atrial fibrillat ion has recently risen to the hitherto unseen levels of up to 90%, many doctors and nurses continue to disregard the potential of modifying the cardiovascular risk featureors associated with this malady to reverse the internet site (NCC-CC, 2006). As a matter of fact, it has been established that nurses have a great potential to positively contribute to the detection, prevention and management of this progressively common condition (Flegel, 1995). It has also been noted that people aged above 65 years old such as Mr. Patel, are the most affected by this condition. Interestingly, this age group account for huge portion of people under nursing care (NCC-CC, 2005). The role of nurses in Mr. Patels case is quite clear since his condition, and the fact that he is aged require that he is placed under intensive treatment and nursing care. For instance, that Mr. Patel just has just undergone surgical procedures and has his cardiac and metabolic systems perceptual constancy impaired make s his case rather care-intensive. Since most of AFs signs and symptoms are asymptotic, it is recommended that nurses suspect the disease in patients with irregular pulses (Flegel, 1995). It is not enough to merely suspect the disease in such patients nurses should do more by informing physicians and recommending referral to an electrocardiogram. The objectives of nursing observations and activities on Mr. Patel, after his surgery includes the following to alleviate the signs and symptoms of AF and to prevent other cerebrate complications he might contract. Among the procedures that are likely to be applied should be suffer these complications

ZipCar Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
ZipCar - Essay ExampleBased on the case and financial projections, it is introduce that main hold dear drivers of ZipCar include its resources (cars), targeting the right customer segments and operating costs. The following analysis has helped in arriving at some key findings, which can be of not bad(p) help to not only improve the business but also can add weight to the concept to attract investment. The revised financial projections for ZipCar has integrate changes with respect to subscription fees according to customers needs and has incrementd the per mile charge in comparison with competitors. Considering the business potential and huge investment that is required for ZipCar to function as expected and to expand, it is also important that it minimizes costs wherever assertable. One key area that incurs huge costs is obtaining cars on lease. As per the present projections, ZipCar would require $4,400/ socio-economic class to lease unmatched car and would require an average of 50 cars per year and is expecting to increase the number of serviceable cars on a yearly basis. This would mean increase in leasing costs. Moreover, there is also an apprehension that car companies might not find this business promising if they have to lease too many cars to one company. The projections reveal between 10% to 25% growth on a yearly basis. The NPV is calculated using three discount rate assumptions (10%, 15%, 20%) based on the projections (see Exhibit i). The growth of the business as shown in revised financial plan does not indicate any uniformity til now the minimum growth rate is at 14% hence, calculation of NPV with discount rates assumptions below, above and at that point seemed logical in this case. With similar notion, the storehouse value of business has been calculated (Exhibit i). These figures indicate that for an investment of $1.3 million to fetch a growth of at least 15% returns, it becomes necessary that the business maintains a steady growth rate at 10% over next 5 years. In order to achieve this, it is also necessary that profitability is change magnitude for which the below described recommendation might of some help. Besides business expansion, profitability can also be increased by minimizing costs. One possible and implementable solution is to minimize costs incurred by leasing out cars, which attracts much of the investment. This can be done by leasing cars from individuals only a monthly basis (rent) quite than yearly basis. Considering risk factor, it would be better that ZipCar takes 30% of its cars from individuals that do not use their cars too often in exchange of money on a monthly basis. While ZipCar can own the responsibility of these cars in case of damage, it can avoid maintenance of 30% of its cars as it already pays rent to the individuals. The arouse expenses will be borne by the customers. By doing so, ZipCar can save costs incurred towards leasing, maintenance, and insurance of 30% of the cars. Chan ges in financial projection if such model is choose has been shown in Exhibits ii and iii the NPV and TV of the firm after incorporating this recommendation is included in Exhibit i. Exhibit i NPV= Net present value DR = Discount Rate TV= Terminal value of investment Exhibit ii. Recommended model Exhibit iii Comparison between original, revised and recommended

Bookstores Visit - Essay ExampleOn the other side, looking at the ruff sellers, it also being evident that cultural elements specific to communities are being more acceptable to a global audience. Stories from Asia and Europe are being usable and are being read as stories from the local context. Both the book stores had broad range of books. Another interesting observation was the standardization in the trade strategies of the book stores. Both stores had similar best sellers. This suggest the ways in which media is able to reach out to people and influence peoples stopping point making process. In the context of globalization, it can be inferred that the market speculates the cultural choices that people make. The choice on what to read and what to perceive on reading is being largely influenced by the globalised market.Invariably both the bookstores have books portraying Asian symbols and culture in a sellable format. These depictions stay very close to the sterile images of o rientalism. These books in terms of the ways in which they are marketed reinforce orientalism, though in an unrealistic sense. The reciprocal influence of the globalised economy forces the market to deliver tally to the needs of the consumers and at the same time influences the consumers to consume what is marketed. This trend is evidently observable in this scenario. Both the book stores are offering books which reinforce the uninventive images on Asian culture. Interestingly, this trend does not limit itself to a particular genre of books. Right from travel guides to fiction, books confirming certain cultural notions are readily available in both the stores. Interplay of liberalized open world marketing strategies and orientalism is observable in the kind of books that both the stores are selling.Being a classic, Kafkas On Parables was available in both the stores. The number of copies on the rack suggested that this

Based on your ideas on Nilsen and Tannen, discuss how language Essay
Based on your ideas on Nilsen and Tannen, discuss how language reflects patriarchy (Patriarchy) - Essay ExampleBesides, she manages to show that even when filling forms, women tell stories about themselves because approximately forms offer four titles to choose from and they include Mr., Mrs or dud and Dr. In her work, Mr. carries no meaning other than that the respondent is male (Tennen395) however, when women accept Mrs. or Miss it shows that they have been married and that they have conservative forms of address. Women using the label Ms. blood line to reveal if they argon married while men using the title Mr. decline nothing considering that nothing was asked hence, women using Ms. tend to be seen as either liberated or rebellious depending on the observers attitudes (Tennen395). Tennen shows that married women surnames are marked and that if a married woman accepts her husbands name, she acknowledges to the world that, she is married and has traditional values (Tennen396). .. . From her dictionary cards, Nielsen shows that feminine words have acquired sexual connotations while the masculine word retains serious business like aura (Nielsen). For instance, she manages to show that while a directboy is an individual who calls actors when time comes for them to go to stage, a call girl is considered a prostitute. In her study, Nielsen found about 200 pairs of words that accepted both masculine and feminine forms and in nearly all of the pairs, masculine form was considered the base where a feminine suffix was added. The masculine form is basis on which compounds are made apart from one semantic subject area where masculine word is not the basis and the areas deals with sex, marriage and motherhood. Nielsen shows that when someone refers to a virgin, the listener probably considers a female unless the speaker specifies a masculine pronoun, which is the corresponding case with the term prostitute. Moreover, Nielsen shows that the grammar used in writing or even talking about weddings show the expectation of men playing an active fictional character when men wed women while the women become brides of men. Nevertheless, titles offered to royalty indicate that males can be at loss because of the assumption that they predominantly play a ruling role for instance, when a female has the royal title, then the man she marries does not automatically acquire a matching title. From Nielsens article, it is clear that connotations between promote male and pessimistic female connotations can be established from various pairs of words that differ denotatively in the area of sex. For instance, patron and matron have varying degrees of approve that womenfolk attempt to use the
